John McGuinness breaks the race and course record but its Steve Plater who wins the exciting PokerStars Senior TT race and the Joey Dunlop Championship Trophy along with the £10,000.   The race was delayed for half an hour due to rain out on the course so started at the new time of 1.30pm.

John McGuinness on his 1000cc Honda / HM Plant Honda Racing showed his intentions by putting in a time of 17mins 17.23secs at a speed of 130.953mph a new race course record  and to lead Steve Plater 1000cc Honda / HM Plant Honda Racing  by over 3.5 seconds and Conor Cummins 1000cc Kawasaki / McAdoo Kawasaki Racing down a further 6 secs. Now on his first flying lap, but still having to slow to take on fuel at the end of the second lap John McGuinness extended his lead to over 14.5 seconds with a new race and course record in 17mins 12.30secs at a speed of 131.578mph and although second man  Steve Plater broke the old race and course record in 17mins 23.29secs at  130.192mph John was stretching his lead. Conor Cummins lost another one second but maintained his third position. With Ian Hutchinson 1000cc Honda / Padgetts Racing,  Gary Johnson 1000cc Honda / Robinson Concrete and Guy Martin 1000cc Honda / Hydrex Honda Racing making up the first six at the end of the second lap.

At the half way stage the lead was over 19 seconds and John McGuinness looked to be cruising to his fourth Senior TT until drama struck in the Fourth lap with McGuinness going missing at  Ramsey Hairpin and reported as having broken his chain at Cruckshank and the rider was OK. This let Plater move into the lead from Manxman Conor Cummins who became only the fourth rider ever to turn in a speed of over 130mph, in a time of 17mins  23.02secs 130.225mph. At the end of the lap the front two were joined by Guy Martin, Ian Hutchinson,  Gary Johnson and Keith Amor to make up the top six. But the drama wasn't over as in the pits refueling first Guy Martin like John McGuinness suffered a broken chain while in the pits Keith Amor was forced out with a rear spindle that refused to re-engage. The TT Senior drama continues with Ian Hutchinson crashing out at Quarterbridge just a mile down the road from the start on the last lap, losing out on third position and £10,000 first prize as the leader on points of the overall championship and collecting the Joey Dunlop Trophy, the new trophy in its first year for the rider who gains the most winning points in race week.

The last lap gave no more excitement for the top six as they kept station. Steve Plater  1000cc Honda / HM Plant Honda Racing  winning in a new race record time of 1hour 46mins 12.69secs 127.884mph. Second  Manxman Conor Cummins 1000cc Kawasaki / McAdoo Kawasaki Racing 1hour  46mins 12.69seconds  127.884mph and third Gary Johnson 1000cc Honda / Robinson Concrete in 1hour 47mins 03.37secs 126.875mph,  fourth Gary Johnson fifth Adrian Archibald and in sixth Carl Rennie.

The fastest lady ever on the TT course was  Jenny Tinmouth  in a time of  19mins 22.56secs 116.835mph on her fourth lap and the best newcomer was Luis Carreira* 1000cc Suzuki / Benimoto Suzuki Cetelem 1hour 54mins 28.32secs at 118.656mph

The race was cut short for some riders as they were flagged off due to rain at the end of their fifth lap,

As the race came to an end sad news arrived that number 58 Manx rider John Crellin had lost his life in an accident on the mountain at the mountain box on his fifth lap. 55 year old John was a well known  competitor in both the TT Races and the Manx Grand Prix as well as a renown Mountaineer who had climbed five of the top six mountains and just returned from his third attempt at Everest his last major mountain to climb. John acheived a podium position in the previous race, coming third in the Open class in the first ever TTXGP. John will be missed by his many friends and his Family. We extend our deepest sympathy to John's family
